The New Jersey State Chess Federation (NJSCF) and the Livingston High School Chess Club invite all high school faculty advisors, club officers, and interested administrators to an informational session for the inaugural New Jersey Teachers’ Chess League (NJTCL).

🏆 Basic Format

Inspired by PogChamps, the NJTCL is a unique statewide online chess league where high school teachers are mentored by their students and compete in a low-pressure, high-excitement tournament environment.

  • All games will be broadcast on Lichess with live commentary and analysis from experienced high school chess players across New Jersey.
  • The tournament will be conducted in a Swiss format, featuring a rapid time control and four rounds total.
  • Each round will have opposing schools’ teachers play two games (one as White, one as Black).

The mentorship phase will begin this winter, with the tournament scheduled for Spring 2026.

💡 Why Attend?

The NJTCL provides a platform for high school chess clubs to lead and collaborate statewide, empowering students while engaging educators in a shared passion for chess.

Prizes:

  • All participating teachers and clubs receive certificates and official state recognition.
  • The NJTCL Champion will receive an engraved plaque, and 2nd and 3rd place teams will receive honorable mentions and commemorative trophies.

Resources:
If your school needs chess sets, clocks, or other materials, the NJSCF can provide them upon request.
