GM MAC MOLNER IS 2022 NJ CHAMPION

In September the New Jersey Open was held at the lovely Hyatt Morristown in Morristown NJ. This marks the 74th year of the event, only missing one year due to Covid in its long history. This event pulls in everyone from amateurs to grandmasters fighting for bragging rights and prestige in the chess world of New Jersey. This year we managed to muster a wonderful turnout of 170 players in our adult sections and 172 scholastic players!
Some of the big names competing this year were GMs Mackenzie Molner and John Fedorowicz. After 5 hard fought rounds, Mackenzie Molner emerged as this year’s New Jersey’s Chess Champion! Congratulations Mac!
For those who have not been to this tournament before the Hyatt is a lovely site to play in. While we will miss Morristown, for 2023 as we are moving to the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill, the site of several US Open events over the years. We look forward to the change and hope that everyone will enjoy the area outside of Philly as much as we do. We look forward to starting with a brand new staff and welcoming all of our friends in chess who will join us. Thank you to all the players from both this year and in the past who have supported us. We look forward to continuing to celebrate chess and duking it out over the board for the next 74 years!
